FA 499 - Special Problems and Directed Study
Information on taking a 499, directed study, course
- Step 1 - Students are encouraged to take classes
from the regular class schedule offerings. Faculty will only allow students to
take a FA 499 class under special circumstances. Ask yourself the following
questions:
- Why do you need to take a FA 499 class?
- Is there a way you can sign up for the regularly scheduled class?
- What would you like to achieve in your FA 499 class?
- How many credits would your FA 499 class be worth?
- What is your exact plan for your FA 499 class? (Your class outline)
- When, and how many projects are due?
Once you can
answer all of the above questions, go to Step 2.
- Step 2 - Write up a one page FA 499 proposal
detailing your plans, the questions you answered above. Be very specific about
due dates and number of projects you are planning to complete. Make two
copies of your proposal.
- Step 3 - As I will be your advisor, you will
need me to do the following:
- Evaluate your proposal
- Make sure your are taking an appropriate number of credits in relation to your
project
- Have me sign off on your proposal
- Step 4 - After your proposal has been accepted,
you need to follow departmental policy for registering for the class and
taking care of any lab fees.
- Make sure you fully understand that by submitting a
proposal and getting my signature on that proposal, you and I have entered
into a contract for you to complete all of your proposed projects.
