Mixed Media and other Techniques

 

This project’s focus is on examining our ideas of what painting can be, and how it can be approached.

 

We will look at how artists of the past have used everyday found items in their work to create paintings.

 

Look at –

 

          Hannah Hoch

          Robert Rauschenberg

          Pablao Picasso

          Ellsworth Kelly

 

Techniques to look up -

 

          Glazing        Collage    Relief        Mixed Media

          Scumbling    Impasto    Taped Edges    Combine

Requirements for this project are as follows:

 

          - Minimum size 18 x 24 inches

 

          - Each painting must have a “Sketch” in paint, these can be done on

                    18 x 24 inch Strathmore Drawing Paper

 

            - You must have 3 to 5 ideas sketched out in your sketch book, including

written statements about what the basis is for your use of the collage items

           

                        Minimum of 1* painting due at the beginning of class on, September 19th , be prepared for the group critique.

 

*You should be creating more than 1 painting, however we will only critique 1 on that day, pick your 1 (of many) that rocks.
