Self Portrait:

 

This project is an exploration dealing with paint as a personal form of expression keeping in mind formal concepts of form, shape, value, color, and composition. Don’t forget the concepts explored in our first projects. 

 

In this assignment you will explore thoughts and ideas about yourself. The use of photographs is allowed for reference to your personal appearance, using a mirror will work as well. Consider carefully how you wish to depict your self and share with others in your painting.

 

Requirements:

 

            -You are not allowed to use paintbrushes for this assignment, experiment

with other tools, some simple suggestions are:

            *plastic eating utensils

            *sticks

            *homemade brushes

            *Q-tips are overused, avoid at all costs

  -Painting must be on stretched and gesso-primed canvas, the largest you

            can build with 8 ft. of 1 x 2 inch and 1/2 inch quarter round material.

            -Minimum of 3 pencil sketches exploring composition in your sketchbook

            -At least one monochromatic paint sketch on paper

            -Compositionally you must include either ¾+ of your entire body, or your

                        head and face must make up ¾+ of the picture plane.
