FA 320 – Beginning Painting
Our primary project will involve creating a painting from an in-class still life. The focus of this set of assignments is to help us learn the uses of color. We will explore the mixing and assigning of colors to create observational paintings from the in-class still life.
In the smaller secondary projects, to be worked on outside of class, we will look at the following ideas involving the use of color:
-Designing a personal color wheel to experience color mixing
-Developing a logical progression of mixing for:
complementary colors
analogous colors
monochromatic tinting
monochromatic shading
creating transparent colors and glazing
-Investigating the use of monochromatic tinting and shading to create
under-paintings and painted sketches
-Using mixtures of colors to create shading and light
-Using the addition of Black and White paint to colors to create shades
and tints. (Creating Shadows and Highlights)
