Extended Project 4

Transformation of an Object Through Space

Focus: To take what we have learned about shape, form, volume, value and color to transform the image of an object into a different object across the space of a picture plane using color.

For this assignment, you will need:

10 thumbnail sketches in your sketchbook of interesting objects you find in your everyday environment.

From these 10 images choose two objects that are in some way visually opposite. i.e.

-         Flat vs. Formed

-         Light vs. Dark

-         Rounded vs. Angular

-         Biomorphic vs. Mechanical

Begin with a volumetric representation with one object and work across the space of your picture plane changing the shapes and forms until you end with the volumetric representation of the second object. Transform one object into the other by mixing complementary and analogous color schemes to create volume and form in space.

Open:

What you use for color: paint, color pencil, water color…

Requirements:

- 18 x 24 inch minimum size, on heavy weight archival paper or

equivalent.

            - Use the full spectrum of color to create value.

            - Minimum of 10 sketches, full page, of objects in pencil exploring

                        full range of value scale.
