Value study from photography

Focus: To take what we have learned about shape, form, volume, and value and recreate a given image by hand.

For this assignment, you will need:

Photograph – choose something that you are interested in, try to avoid glamour images, keep it real

Archival paper – to be discussed in class, minimum of 18 x 24 inches

Pencils and/or graphite stick

Tracing paper if needed

Create a grid on the photographic image, if needed, make a B & W color photocopy of the image to have something to create the grid directly on. Make sure to think about how the grid will work out proportionately to the paper you will use. (discuss)

Create a proportional grid on you archival paper.

Use the image with grid as the basis of your drawing, still consider the ideas of point of view and composition.

Create a value scale replication, in proportion, of the photographic image.
